Hunting for Tropical Prints

I've spent the past few weeks searching for 1940-1950's Hawaiian clothing. And let me just say, this is a tall order!! It's specifically challenging to locate garments made in the 40's. A man's shirt from the 40's can easily range in price from $400-$1,000! And there are some seriously dedicated collectors out there that seem to be building a collection of there own. These are some from the garments from the 50's that I've seen this week.

Trade show (take two!)

This is our booth at Premiere Vision/Direction by Indigo show! It was a two day show(three if you include a day of setting up.) We owe a huge 'THANK YOU' to Jeromy for making a ton of hangers for us. They're pretty slick!
While this show was a tad quiet, we were fortunate we didn't get multiple feet of snow as was predicted. We had a great time getting acquainted with design house's and designer's. We were able to catch up with a few friends who paid the show a visit! And all you WWD subscriber's keep a look out for a mention/pic of Quince to Marmalade!

Golden

While visiting family in Denver we found our way to Colfax St. For those of you that don't know, it's a super sketchy hood. It's a dense multitude of crack heads with equal parts teenage mothers and strollers. On the upside there are about 20 something thrift stores along Colfax. We made out with a handful of conversational pieces. So it was a fruitful day. Then we almost hit the jackpot via a craigslist post. This women wanted to clear out two bedrooms packed full of old textiles... She decided to give it ALL to a girl scout troop! Dang...

Then we spent a day in Golden, Co. It's a really cute historical town. Golden is also where Coors beer is brewed. They were having a christmas parade, with the cutest pack of alpacas and mini ponies.
Golden had a really nice assortment of aged Arapaho rugs. Here are some pics of them.

Tomorrow is my Bday...Buy me this building

Visited a new (to me) hood in Brooklyn today in order to check out The Textile Arts Center. It was super gray and chilly and the area was kinda industrial and gloomy. Good combo!! All in all a good time was had by all (me). Really excited to start printing at Textile Arts Center, as there facility was gorgeous! http://www.textileartscenter.com

I HEART...SCREENS, AND INK AND SQUEEGEES!!!

Ink right on the screen
COLORES
SWEET VIEW

Spent the day screen printing at me new favorite place: Bushwick Print Lab. BPL is a great little screen printing lab in Brooklyn, and one of many art studios/spaces in a big old warehouse. It's been a while since got dirty with some ink, and it felt damn good. SQUUUEGEEEEEEE!!!

Fall Shopping

It's always fun going to a venue you know can deliver. I have a few go-to's that have a speedy turnover, this place is one of em! They have a great selection of funky graphic, pretty painterly, and for this visit my focus was foliage and feather.
